Illinois could be the

SAFEST PLACE IN
THE MIDWEST

for reproductive
healthcare

We Want

Reproductive:

Illinois already expresses its commitment to Liberty & Justice in relevant statutes such as:

  • The Illinois Act on the Aging (20 ILCS 105/2),
  • the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act (210 ILCS 9/5),
  • Illinois Sexually Transmissible Disease Control Act (410 ILCS 325/2),
  • the Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Act (410 ILCS 405/2),
  • and other statutes relating to the provision of health and human services

So why not more
REPRODUCTIVE
Liberty and Justice?!

Pregnant peoples

should have the right to

reproductive health care

In Illinois, the following are FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS under the Reproductive Health Act of 2019:

(775 ILCS 55/1-15)
Sec. 1-15. Fundamental reproductive health rights.

1 out of every 5 women in Illinois is presumably capable of pregnancy. Of that population, about 8% experiences a pregnancy each year.

Lifetime prevalence (based on national stats) :

10%

10% will experience miscarriage at least once

23.7%

23.7% will undergo an induced termination at least once

80%

80-86% will give birth at least once

How does Illinois' reproductive health
system perform right now?

Not Well

In Cook County mothers are primarily dying of pregnancy-related medical conditions due to ineffective (gaps in) healthcare during pregnancy and the postpartum year.

Outside of Cook County deaths due to mental health conditions are the biggest drivers; especially related to opioid overdose.

Capacity strain on our reproductive health care delivery system after the overturn of Roe vs. Wade will exacerbate our maternal mortality crisis.
